How we make money

From the subscription, by building a good workbench, not by reselling AI. The built-in agent costs what OpenRouter billed for each request plus a flat 15%, which covers OpenRouter's fees, card processing and requests that fail after they're billed. Your own ChatGPT or Claude can run the whole editor on the plan you already pay for. We run the company lean, so the subscription is enough.

What is the best Kapwing alternative?

You upload the talk, run Repurpose Studio, get a batch of clips the AI picked, restyle the captions, export. A decent afternoon. Then you do it again the next week, and the week after, and the shape of the job shows itself: the machine proposes the sections, and every one of them gets finished inside Kapwing — music, brand assets, B-roll — before any of it can go out. Kapwing says its AI clips are "100% customizable directly in the studio." That's true: you finish them there, by hand or by asking Kai, clip by clip, and the work stays inside Kapwing's own editor.

BitterClip starts from the recording instead of from a prompt. Prop your phone up and record straight into the project from the browser, send one link on Producer and let up to 25 people record themselves on their own time, or drop in a file you already have from Zoom, Riverside, or a camera. Either way you get a transcript you can edit like a document. Select the sentence where you rambled, delete it, and a real cut happens in the video. It lands on the word rather than near it, because cuts are timed to the audio itself. The vertical version is one tap, captions and timing carried across. Openers and outros, speaker titles, music you can listen to before you commit to it. Same kit every week, so the second episode isn't a rebuild of the first.

Ask for the edit instead of going to find it

When a Kapwing clip is 80% right, you close the last 20% inside Kapwing: by hand in the studio, or by asking Kai, which spends Kapwing's AI credits. Its closed-beta connector lets Claude and ChatGPT upload, subtitle, dub and export. When a BitterClip cut is 80% right, you say what's wrong — in ChatGPT, in Claude, or in the panel beside the editor — and it changes. Your own ChatGPT, Claude or Codex can run the whole editing workbench, not just a few jobs. What comes back is a normal edit: keep nudging it yourself, or undo it, all the way back.

Two things fall out of that, and you feel both weekly. Every clip remembers where it came from, so one click puts you back at that spot in the full recording — worth a lot the day someone asks when exactly he said that. And a review link plays the exact version you sent, never a later one, for up to two weeks, even after you've moved on.

Picking the moments can be a request too. Kapwing's Repurpose Studio picks the "best sections" from your prompt; in BitterClip, ask the agent to find the moments and make a first cut, or pick them yourself. There's no virality score.
