BitterClip vs Descript

The recording went great. Now it's Sunday.

You have ninety minutes of good conversation and three hours of work in front of you. That's the problem. Descript and BitterClip both go after it — they just start from opposite ends.

Descript starts at the microphone. It records you, records your screen, records the person on the other end of the call, and drops all of it into an editor that reads like a document. Delete a sentence in the transcript and the video loses the sentence. Underlord, its AI co-editor, takes feedback and leaves you a normal project you can keep editing by hand. Descript even lets assistants outside the app reach in to import, transcribe, and run Underlord — their docs cover it.

BitterClip starts at the file — including one it records for you. Every project has a browser recorder in it: prop your phone up and talk, and the take drops straight into your edit, already transcribed. It captures camera and mic on a laptop or phone, up to 1080p. For a conversation, open Studio on a paid plan: your guest joins from a link, and each of you is recorded on your own track, so you can cut between you. And on Producer there's async recording: write a short brief, share one link, and up to 25 people record themselves on their own time, each answer landing as its own episode. Descript's nearest equivalent is a scheduled Room that starts without you, which is still a live call. And bringing what you already shot — phone, Zoom, Riverside, a camera card — is still the common case, and everything after that is the product.

Editing by asking

The difference you feel daily is how much of the editor an assistant can reach. Descript's MCP hands the job to Underlord. In BitterClip, ChatGPT, Claude or Codex can run the whole editing workbench directly. Say "cut the tangent at 14:20 and tighten the intro" in ChatGPT, in Claude, or in the panel beside the editor, and what comes back is an ordinary edit. Open it, nudge the in-point by hand, undo it. There is no separate AI mode with its own rules, and nothing you can only do one way.

What each plan counts

Since September 2025, Descript's plans count media minutes plus AI credits, and by Descript's own metering docs, unused minutes and credits expire at month end.

BitterClip's paid plans include hours of footage and AI agent use: Creator is $24/month with 10 hours and $10; Producer is $99/month with 40 hours, $40, and priority rendering. Changing a cut by hand costs nothing extra. When the first pass is wrong, you say what's wrong and that cut changes, and a review link plays the exact version you sent, never a later one, for up to two weeks.

Finding the moments

Descript's Create clips will hand you one to twenty clips at whatever length you ask for. In BitterClip, ask the agent to find the moments and make a first cut, or pick them yourself. There's no virality score. You can also search everything you have ever recorded by what was said, who said it, or what was on screen. Cuts follow the transcript's word timings, and one click on any clip jumps back to that spot in the full recording.
